PInK CoOKiZ ExCLuSIvE InTErVIeW WiTH dJ SkINnY

Well rite here we have some history... This is the first interview that Whitnee 'Pink Cookiz' Layne has done that has been generously shared with us, so i just what to say thanks for your none stop representation of Hip hop and giving artists fat heads... So here you lucky lucky people go an exclusive interview with DJ/Producer, Beatminerz affiliate, DJ Skinny. Brooklyn, NY born and raised...

Hey Mr. DJ! Long time! What’s been going on since?
Thanks! Since the last time we met I've been pretty busy with a few things on the Dj tip, traveling, studying and analyzing the game.

Studying and traveling huh? That's a good look! "Been to many places but you're Brooklyn zone"...lol
Bushwick Brooklyn to be exact!

OK! I aint mad at all! Who and or what influences you?
DJ wise, Pete Rock, Jazzy Jeff, Premier, Marley Marl, Grandmaster Flash along with local Dj's from the hood that let me come under the ropes at the park jams and block parties. All of them for different reasons had some sort of influence on me. I remember when I was young trying to mimic the scratch's on "The Adventures Of Grandmaster Flash", I think just about every Dj coming up did that.

That must be where your love for sampling is influenced. By any chance, do you play any instruments?
No I dont play any instruments, it's not easy to create dope music using just instruments. Everybody can't be a Pharell or any of those other guys that dont do alot of sampling. So yes, I do use a lot of sampling

How does it feel to be in control of hundreds of people at one time? Let's be honest that's what a dope DJ does, controls the crowds and I've seen you in action. You're incredible.
Thank you! Its a feeling like no other when people appreciate and enjoy what you do. When they give you that energy out on that dance floor you got to give it back 10 times with your record selection.

Are there any current songs that blew your mind when it comes to production?
Music has changed so much that there really isnt anything that has come out on a broad scale that has blown my mind

Well than, give us a few songs you would consider mind blowing production!
My all time favorites! "Shut Em' Down"- Pete Rock. The way Pete pan mixed that he had samples playin in the left he had samples playing in the right then he had that horn that was bouncing from one ear to the other probably the best hip hop remix of all times. "Players"- Slum Village. The way J Dilla flipped that sample he had you thinking it was saying plaaaaaayers when it was actually saying Claaaaaaaire only a mind of a genius would have thought of doing that. "Murray's Revenge"- Murs. 9th wonder chopped up Bob James "Nautilus"! It was incredible, it had me in instant head nod mode from beginning to end!

Whats next on the list?
Look out for the long awaited Dysfunkshunal Familee LP titled "Familee Reunion" this October (2010) with features from General Steele (Smif n Wessun), Sadat X, O.C, Mc Graig G and Jean Grae just to name a few. Production by myself, Da Beatminerz, 9th Wonder, Will Tell, AaGee (Hieroglyphics) Bazarro and more. Im hoping its labeled a "classic"

Where can we find you online?
